OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN.
AUCKLAND, August 13. At the Supreme Court criminal session the Chief Justice said the calendar contained fifteen charges, including five sexual cr.^es and one charge oj. murder. He expressed the opinion that the crime against girls under the .age of consent would decrease if common juries were content to accept the stories of the children, and, further, that the law should be amended so that no man could save himself by merely pleading . ignorance of » girl's age.
