AMUSEMENTS, MEETINGS, ETC.

THE GRAND THEATRE,

A GREAT PROGRAMME

THREE BIG STAR PICTURES.

"There:s Many a Fool" is a new form of screen comedy. It depends neither on slapstick nor trickery to produce laughs, and the fact that it does produce a laugh every ten seconds or thereabouts speaks much for the value of straight comedy characters and situations. Mr Mann has never been seen to better advantage than he is in tue role of the Fool, and Mis.s Phillips makes an alluring "vampire." Charles Arliiig, Joe Lee, Phyllis Allen, Elsie Gree&on and William Eagle Eye, the Indian comedian, complete the cast. Although 'The Dummy" has for its chief exponent Jack Pickford, there are many other well-played characters, notably Babbings, a detective, depicted in a thoroughly striking manner by Frank Losee. "The Love Route" film shows the whole process of building a railway lino from start to finish, and most of th« scenes are laid amidst the magnificent sierras and wild scrub of the hinterland of California, including some fine glimpses over the rail of an observation car. The cast is & remarkably strong one, and includes Winifred Kingston and Harold Lockwood in the "leads," Donald Crisp as the villain, and Jack Pickford and Juanita Hanson in the comedy roles. The conclusion, which shows young Cupid toddling down the newlybuilt line and giving his blessing to various amarous young couples, explains "why they called it 'The Love Route.' " A very freshly treated, wellconstructed and" wholly entertaining photo-play. Excellent supporting pictures complete a capital entertainment. The programme will be screened for the last time to-day and to-night
