EASTOWN RAILWAY FIRE BRIGADE.
SMOKE CONCERT.
A very pleasant evening, which was opened with the National Anthem, was spent in the Railwaj Social Hall on Fri^iy evening, wften the- Eastoiwu Railway Fire Brigade held a full muster "wet event" in compliment to Captain Gunner, who is resigning from tne service, and unavoidably from the Brigade, to go on to the land. Representatives were present from the Wanganui and Gonyille Brigades. The feature of the evening was the presentation Dy Lieutenant Davidson, who, in a neat and happy speech, asked Captain Gunner, on behalf of the Brigade, to accept as some token of esteem a handsome set of military hair brushes'. After a few appreciative remarks by his successor, Captain McDonald, the guest of the evening suitably responded. During the evening, which was presided over by Fireman Eastman, the secretary announced the receipt of.a donation of two guineas from Gleghill's, rug manufacturers, in recognition of the Brigade's services at their recent fire at Eastown. Mr Lewis also offered a prize of two guineas for a five-man event, to be run off at a date to oe arranged.' The Brigade accepted, ana thanked Mr Lewis for his generous offer. Songs and recitations by firemen and friends helped tie evening to a very successful and liappy conclusion. ,
