(Renter.) Received 11-45 p.m. July 23. LONDON, July 23. The War Office reports: General Smuts on the 21st reported as follows : Enemy forces endeavouring to interfere with our communications west, of Tanga were driven southwards over the Pangini River. Muhetza and Ama_ ni were occupied. We are in effective possession of the whole of the Usambara railway, which is being repaired. Beigian official : A strong enemy force dislodged by the British from the occupation of Bukoba and Karagwe, found their retreat barred by a weaker Belgian force at the south-west, corner of Lake Victoria Nyanza. The Germans in this force were killed or captured, and the remnant fled in the direction of iuariahilf. The German commander was captured. We found the German steamers Mwauzar and Otto-Heiurieh scuttled.
