ATTEMPTED MURDER.
(United Press Association.- —Copyright.) JOHANNESBURG, Deo. 11. Sir Lionel Phillips was shot outside the Rand Club to-day _ in the hip and neck. His assailant was Nissum, a etarekeeepr, who fired'fpur shots. Sir Lionel Phillips was hit twice, but his condition is not grave.
Nissum's first' shot missed Sir Lionel. The crowd rari towards Nissum, who alternately threatened them and fired at Phillips, who finally dropped unconscious with a .bullet in his liver.
The onlookers secured Nissum before ho could commite suicide, knocking up his arms so that the bullet grazedl his forehead. Percy Fitzpatrjck lifted Sir, Lionel Phillips into a taxi, and drove" to th© hosptial.
Meanwhile/Nissum cooly cried to his captors, "Don't hurt me. The police will arrest me." -The man, who_ is a Russian, aocusse Phillips of trying tt> ruin him. It is understood that h© lost a lawsuit against a mining group with which Phillips is connected.
