CONTRACTS LET IN RANGITIKEI. THE AUCKLAND EXHIBITION. FARMERS AND LICE INFECTED SHEEP. OFF TO THE OLD COUNTRY. MARTON TECHNICAL SCHOOL. SCARLET FEVER IN TURAKINA. (From Our Travelling Reporter.) MARTON, April 5. Mr. Thorns, Road Inspector of Rangitikei County Council, has accepted the following tenders during the month : Delivering 600 yards of gravel on the Bulls-Scotts roads, G. Wicks at 3s. 9d. per yard; delivering 400 yards of gravel on tho Turakina Valley roads, C. H. Fetenson, a.t 4si. pqr yi^rd; Ao wearing cutting Griffins Road, Mr. Cleary for £166 11s. Bd.; filling jootpath near the Marton 6tation, Mr. J. Adam at £46 17s. Gd. . " The Oroua County Council on Friday decided to vote £25 towards the Manawatu Court at the Auckland Exhibition. The suggestions offered by the Woodviilo Borough Council suggestions re dealing with motor traffic, did not meet with tho approval of tho Oroua County . Council, and the latter body decided to support the suggestions made by the Marton Conference of Local Bodies in preference. The work of erecting a footbridge over the Tutaenui on the Marton | Junction road is to bo started as soon as the timber arrives. Tho Rangitikei County Council has been advised by the Treasury that £1617 3s. 2d., of the Council's debt under the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886, has now been extinguished. The account in the Register in consequence of tho above reduction, now reads as follows:—Total debt £83,081 11s.. halfyearly interest, £1589 19s. 3d.' The Stock Department are displaying considerable activity in the effort to compel flockmasters and dealers to keep their sheep clean, and several cases against farmers are to be dealt with at the Marton Court at its next sittings. At the Feilding Court A. Nancarrow, manager of a farm at Flimmerton, was fined £1 and costs 7s. on the charge of • having >exr^j£«3d' Dor Jgate, sheep infested with lice. Tho defendant's plea was that the sheep had been dipped and turned out on the run again. Mr. McElroy, who contemplates a visit to the Old Country, was granted six months' leave of absence by the Oroua County Council. An application having been made to Rangitikei County Council on Saturday by F. J. Kintz and others for a loan of £900 for making a deviation on the Whaka road, it was decided that tho request be agreed to. Mr. W. W. Thomas, Secretary of tho Marton Technical School Commttteo, in thanking the Rangitikei County Council for the very liberal donations made for tho maintenance of tho school, pointed out that the Council in virtue of tho donations made entitled to an additional representative. Tiie writer continued: "This year the com-: mittee; ; contemplates taking over tbe management of the school from the Education Board; , Tho expenses'will/ owing to the appointment of the localorganiser and the caretaker, be somewhat heavier. It .is hoped that tho County Council will help the' commit-tee-in taking this important step by the continuation of their support,, a .id by the appointment of two-(instead of one) active members to help in the >rganisation of the school." Inspector Pargetor, reporting on a case of scarlet fever in Turakina Vailey, stated that a privy discharges into a creek, which in turn empties into the Turakina river. Certain suggestions for earth disposal -were -ilfercd, tho trench to be as far from any water supply as possible in order to avoid contamination. The Clerk intimated that the suggestion had been forwarded to tho right source. It was decided to ascertain if tho suggestions had been carried out. Tho sum of £677 Gs. Bd. has been paid to the Rangitikei County Council on account of ordinary " thirds" and small grazing run " fourths" accrued to October sth, 1912; also £197 2s. 5d., being amount of hypothecated thirds and fourths to March 15th, 1913. Tho Upper Wangaehu Road Board are endeavouring to have a full quota of widening done on the Turakina Vailey Road, as some of the settlers are of using it as an lOUtHeb for their wool. Tlio matter came before the County Council on Saturday, and it was stated 'that the matter was being attended to.
