Constable Squires, of the local force, has been, transferred to Marton, vice Constable'Lester, resigned..... It-is stated that OVlr Hogben, Inspec-tor-General of Schools, intends resigning at an early date.

The Rev J. D. McKenzie, 8.D., and Mrs McKenzie, who have been spending a holiday in the Taupo district, returned home yesterday. A Christchurch telegram announces the death of Mr Alexr. MacFarla-ne, of Achray, a well-known North Canterbury runholder, aged 50 yea;rs. Hon. T. Mackenzie, Sir H. Just, Sir J. G. Ward, and Messrs Mason Chap pie, and Fell, Ms.P.. welcomed Hon. James Allen at Charing Cress. Mr Allen is much benefited by tho voyage. The Senate of the New Zealand* University, at a sitting in Auckeland the other day, conferred a signal honour on Mr L. J. Watkin, the instructor in drawing in the primary schools for the Wanganui Education Board1, when it appointed him Examiner in Drawing for the University examinations. The appointment is a high compliment to the known ability and imoartiality of a, clever teacher who has grown up in our midst, and we are sure Mr Watkin's numerous friends and well-wishers will be proud of the distinction accorded him.

Our Feilding correspondent writes that a wedding of considerable interest took plaoejresfcerday, when the Rev W. R. Hutcmson, who has just been appointed to the charge of tho Mapaekakaho district, was married to Miss Helen MoKenzie, of Carnarvon. Owing to the recent death of the bride's grandfather, the Hon. John Bryce, the wedding was a quiet one. only the near relatives of the family being present Tho Rev. J. A. McKenzie, assisted by the Rev. J.
