FIRE ON THE MANAROA.

(Per Prras Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 27. A firo broke out on the coastal steamer Manaroa, lying alongside the Customhouse Quay last night, but was extinguished by tho Fire Brigade before any serious damage resulted. The fire was in the passengers' saloon amidships. The only damage done was to some bunks and fittings. Several bodies of suffocated rats and several scattered wax matches were found, so it is believed the fire was caused by rats. Only the timely discovery of the outbreak and the early arrival of the brigade prevented serious damage, as & strong wind was blowing.
