THE CONVENT ENTERTAINMENT

The Convent annual entertainment will take place on Tuesday evening next. 17th inst., -when a programme will be presented which by its variety and excellence cannot fail to pleas© all ■who patronise frhe Opera House on that occasion. There will ibe both vocal and instrumental, music, and a variety of pretty drills and dances. The Sisters of St. -Joseph have been very successful in training their pupils for these performances, and this year the same talent and care have teen 'bestowed as in the past. The most important item in this year's programme will be the pretty Japanese operetta entitled Princess Chrysanthemum," in which a large number of youthful participants will figure. The piece is divided into three acts. The first act portrays a fete in honour of (Princess Chrysanthemum on the occasion of her twentyfirst birthday. The Princess .has a lover, tut the "course of true love does not run smooth. Prince Sotru, who loves the. Princess, has a rival in Prince bosh. Prince Sosli intrigues with the •wizard cat, Saucereyes, with the result that he succeeds in getting the Princess imprisoned in the cave of Inky Night. Fairy Moonbeam comes to the rescue and aids Prince Sotru to release •f-u Pnncess. Saucereyes is charged with the crime, and informs on Prince Sosli, who is condemned to death by the emperor. Princess Chrysanthemum however, obtains his reprieve, and in -e? d enters into a happv marriage with her true lover (Prince "Sotru. The Pi ei^ H well mounted. The evolutions ot the Japanese dances are graceful, and their effect will be added to hy coloured limelights. After the play the prizes will be distributed by the Mayoress. •Mrs. Mackay.
