SIR WILFRID LA-URIER'S CRITI-
CISM
OTTAWA. Dec. 12
. Sir Wilfrid Laurier has made his first pronouncement on the Hon. It. L. Borden's naval policy. He said it was unOanadian and un-British. He would suggest instead a purely 'Canadian fleet, with supernDreadno;ugbts as the central xinit, built and manned entirely by Canada. The fleet would always be ready to aid Britain. After Sir W. Laurier had concluded, the House sang "Rule, Britannia." Mr Bordeh read a memorandum from the Rt. Hon. Winston Churchill stiating th'at it "was impossible now to build Dreadnoughts in Canada. " The Admiralty, however, would let contracts for naval vessels of smaller size to Canadian shipbuilders.
Sir Wilfrid Laurier argued' thiat the necessity for Britain guarding the coasts by the withdrawal of fleets gjave Canada an opportunity to guard her own coasts 'with her own fleets, similarly to Australia.
