A PAHIATUA GRIEVANCE.
(Per Press Association.)
PAHIATUA, December 12
The first indignation meeting against the Government since the Reform Party took office "was held in Pahiatua last night. The' meeting, which was largely attended, was ' convened" to protest against the action of the Government in letting the Pahiatua-Pongaroa mail contract for one year only. The Minister, in giving his decision, stated that, if the Eketahuna route were metalled meantime, he would reconsider the proposal to divert the Pongaroa service to the Eketahuna route next year. Hitherto, the contract has 'been for^three years.
A resolution was unanimously iiarried, strongly resenting the action of the Government in the matter, strong remarks being made a.bout the Government .being influenced by a few big landowners living on the Eketahuna-Ponga-roa route at the expense of the many extra people occupying small holdings and living on the Pahiatua route. It was claimed that the whole pf the facts wero in favour of the Pahiatua route.
