SEVERE STORM AT RANGATAUA.
THUNDER AND LIGHTNING.
EXPERIENCE OF TWO WORKMEN,
THROWN FROM THE SAWS.
MARTON, December 12. To those of us who have been en- j ioying in a full measure the beautiful summer, weather of "the past week, it can hardly be credible, but it is a fact (writes our travelling reporter), that the country round Taihape experienced a very severe thunderstorm on Wednesday night. The thunder was accompanied 'by vivid flashes of lightning and very heavy rain, and'so severe was the storm that it was deemed advisable to stop the Power Bros, mill at Rangataua. This course was adopted in consequence of two men who were working at the saws, being thrown several feet back during the height of the "storm. I A surveyor on the train to-day stated that it was the worst storm he had experienced for some time, the lightning being particularly severe. The hills, he said, appear to attract it. He was out in the bush at the time of the sudden and unexpected storm, and he felt very ill at ease for some time.
