Lord Islington sailed from Sydney yesterday by the Osterley for India. Captain Collins, of the v Berkshire Regiment, has arrived in Sydney. He is joining the New Zealand military staff. Bishop Julius arrived' in Sydney yesterday. He sails for New Zealand on the 28th inst.

Sir William Ellison Macartney, Deputy Master of the Hoyai Mint, has been gazetted Governor of Tasmania.

The Bight Hon. Henry Chaplin, says a London cable, was thrown when following th« hounds, and had two ribs fractured. n.

Miss J. R. Currie, who has received, twelve months' leave of absence from the Wanganui Girls' College, leaves for Wellington to-day en route to England. Mr. A. A. Hintz, formerly first assistant at Temuka District High School, and at present Director of Technical Education at Nelson, has ibeen advised 'by cablegram of his appointment to the staff of tho Education Department, Singapore, Straits Settlements. He willleave Sydney for the East at the end of December. aVlr. Hintz was for some time in the service of the Wanganui Education Board, and was well known in Wanganui.

The Rev. Canon Garland, organising secretary to the Bible in Schools League, arrived by train from the South yesterday. He was met at the railway station by the Rev. Walker, lopal secretary, and a number of other clergymen and representative citizens. He was entertained at luncheon at the Burlington. In opening the /proceedings iat the Technical College prize distribution ceremony yesterday, Mr Pirani .annoain/ced that"Miss Martha.Steven, 8.A., B.Sc, luad 'been appointed assistant teacher at the /College. Mr Pirani stated that Miss Steven had since 1905 been assistant mistress at the Aebburton High School. She bad talso been five years at the Waitaki Girls' School. In, addition to her scholastic lability, Miss Steven had taken an active'cart in school sports and social life^ and' she would •orove of great assistance to tliG College.
