A GOOD STORY.
(from Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Sept; & The House has been marking time all day. To.the surprise; of most members no attempt has yet been made to pass any classes jor the Estimates. It is usi-al to take the Estimates on Friday's, but several Friday's hive slipped past and the Premier has not attempted to deal with the Estimates The surmise is that lie is :io+. well enough to take an all night sitting, which is practically certain on the first item. Today the House was given some unimportant Bills to play with. One of these i\%s the Animals Protection Bill, and there-was much talk about forests and stoats and weasels by the Hon. Thos. McKenzie, Mr. Ell and others. Speeches by these two gave Mr. Ross, the member for Pahiatua, an opportunity to work off a good story. Mr. Ross had been talking to an old Scotch lady, who vas one of Mr. MeKenzie's constituents, and formerly a great admirer of Ins. Latterly she was not, she said, thinking so much of their member, as apparently he had been keeping bad company. Mr. Ross would not hear anything against the character of Ms fellow member. He did not believe that he ever got into bad company. '"'Oh yes, lie had," added the old lady. She had been reading in the "Otago Witness" that ho had been spending a great deal of his Time in the bush with two "hussies," one by the name of "Flora" ana the other by the name of "Fauna.'' The old Scotch body did not object so much to Flora, in whom she recognised a- probable countrywoman of her own, hut she took decided objection to Fauna, who was evidently an Italian adventuress! Mr. Ross, having told this story, proceeded to solemnly warn Mr. Ml lest a similar fate should befall him in his wanderings through, the forests prime vaL
