(Per Tress Association.) , NAPIER, August 15. liie annual musical and elocutionary competitions opened at the Theatre .Royal to-night, the house being packed in every part. The proceedings were <pMied by the Mayor (Mr J. Vigor Brown), who delivered a short and appropriito speech. To-night's contests resulted as follows :—
Ladies' humorous elocution (own choice):. Miss G. Gallien (Hastings) 1, Auss h. .Parson (Wellington1) 2, Miss S. ■R.-.pley. ("Wellington) 3. Tenor solo: C. Prime (Napier) 1, E. Richards (Nelson) 2. Piano, senior: Miss B. Mackav (Dannevirke) 1, Miss C. Masters (Thames) 2. Vocal solo (girls under 18): Miss F. Sutherland (Wanganui) 1, Miss T. Peterson (Carterton), and Miss M. Arnott (Napier) tie for second.
Elocution (gentlemen): A. E. Russell (Napier) 1, B. A. Brewer (Napier) 2. The judge of music is R. Parker (Wellington) and of elocution R. J. Dolan (Napier).
