The Prince of Wales has opened the new naval harbour at Dover. The harbour has taken 11 years to construct, and cost five millions. It covers an area ox 1 610 acres, and is capable of accommodating th© largest battleship. It is generally considered that the acceleration of the building of the- four additional Dreadnoughts indicates a British general election in January. The Scottish Government Whip is conferring with tho Liberal organisers in Glasgow. Tho Suez Canal Company has obtained an extension of its lease till 2013, and tho contract is tc- be signed shortly.
Albert Monington, a well-known piano manufacturer, recently obtained a divorce from his wife on the ground of her adultery with Leon Souhani. The parties were friends. Mrs. Monington and Souhani eloped to Australia. Subsequently, Souhani returned, expecting to inherit his father's estate of £50,000, but found himself cut off with five shillings, because of his misconduct.

A robber entered the'Erskinc Bank, in a suburb of Chicago, over-awed the clerks with two revolvers, and then, filling his pockets with gold and notes, fled in a motor oar "with a companion. The motor, however, broke down, and the police coming on the scene, fired a fusillade at the robber who committed suicide after killing a policeman.

President Taft has accepted the resignation of Mr. Crane, recently appointed Minister at Pekin, who was suspended for being too talkative. It is believed in Washington that this is due to Japan's intimation that Mr. Crane was not acceptable.
