(United Press Association—Copyright.) HOBART, July 2. There is great depression in the Tasmanian timber trade. Over 200 men have been discharged from the Southern mills, and another 250 are expected to be thrown idle. The cause is said to be due to the absence of duty on pine logs coming from Russia and Japan, winch are cut up in Sydney and Melbourne. This timber was used to supplement Tasmanian hardwood.
MELBOURNE, July 2
In reply to an invitation from the Imperial Federation League to visit Australia, Lord Milner regretted that he was unable to do so this year, but hoped to pay a visit later. A Bill will be introduced in the State Parliament to' abolish professional marriage agencies.
