MARTON NOTES.

At the Mnrton Court to-day, before Messrs R. E. Beckett and C. Rawson, J.'sP., George Allen, alias Captain Nella, was charged with false pretences at Marton yesterday. Constable FitzPatrick stated that accused had obtained 10s from the manager of the Bank of Australasia, and a smaller sum from the manager of the Bank of New Zealand, besides getting 10s from another man. He falsely represented that he expected a. bank draft next day from Nelson, and also that he had bought a farm in the district, and had a good deal of fencing to do. There were over 20 previous convictions against him, mostly for false pretences. He was sentenced to two months' hard labour.
