GOVERNMENT ARRANGEMENTS.
WELLINGTON, July 1
Up to the. .present '71 men from various parts of the Dominion have been sent by the Labour Department to bushfelling work provided by the Government at Rangitatau. Arrangements have been made to send another batch of 20 men this morning, and a further lot of 20 are to leave for the scene of work to-morrow. These 40 men are from Wellington, Palmerston North, Christchurch, and . Auckland. Next Aveek it is. hoped to despatch 60 more men, in lots of 2j). The Labour Department received advice to-day that the men who have already started work at Rangitatau are making good progress. There is room in the block for 250 men. Ten married men will be sent to the Stratford-Ongarue railway works on Saturday, and on Monday ten more are to go to Nelson to public works in that district.
