SYDNEY, March 27
The Water Commission is competing a scheme for the irrigation of 6000 snuaro miles in the Wimmera district a^ a cost of £180,000. Mr Wickes, British Board of Trade representative, met the Chamber of Commerce, and urged the necessity of fostering British interests. His mission to Australia is largely to promote the exchange "of raw for manufactured articles, and he is confident there will bo a big expansion of trade between England and Australia.
Mr Weinstock, a special Labour Commissioner appointed by California to study the Labour laws in the principal countries of the word for the prevention of strikes, has arrived, and is conducting inquiries. A fire at White Cliffs destroyed a block of business premises. Tho inmates wore asleep, and several had narrow escapes. MELBOURNE, March 27.
The Federal Government intend to nsk the Government of New South Wales for the transfer of a full thousand sauare miles for the Federal territory.
