(United Press Association.^-Copyright.) - . MELBOURNE, September 4. Admiral Sperry, addressing a gathering of journalists, urged the great importance of developing trade routes. He thought it a great misfortune that steam communication between New Zealand, Australia, and1 the West Coast of America had been abandoned to a certain extent. :

The trouble, continued the admiral, seemed to lie in>the want of traffic, which wanted : fostering. Australia could not do better than to develop the British possessions in the Pacific, and so lay the foundations of a common interest, which would make for peace, and strengthen the ties of kinship. ,iA^ mi f al Sperry gave high praise to the Cadet system as witnessed by him in New Zealand and Australia. MELBOURNE, September 4. 15,000 of the Commonwealth forces, and 2500 Americans participated in a review yesterday. The weather was r?L and 5O '009 spectators were present. ■ The Commonwealth Government provided dinner at night in the Exhibition Building for 3000 men'of the fleet, but only seven put in an appearance. In connection with this, and several other functions, the visitors have 6howna preference for entertaining themselves in their own way, to being.entertained by others. : ' ■
