" HUMPTY DUMPTY."

Pantomime conies but once a year, and then for a brief stay only. This year it is " Humpty Dumpty," and the Wanganui season will be ushered in next Wednesday. The production comes with a big reputation for its spectacle, comedy, and music. ■ The fun department is said to be particularly well equipped. A lot of the mirth centres round amusing efforts to force a smile upon the features of the dolorous potentate, King Sollum. This monarch is represented by Mr Bert Gilbert, one ot the most prominent pantomime comedians on the stage to-day. Mr Gilbert's woebegone expression is said to be irr* sistable, and when he breaks down and weeps at the jests designed to throw him into convulsions of laughter, the audiences save the situation. ~Mr Gilbert is admirably backed up by Mr Victor Loydall, whose make-up and costumes as Queen Martha and his matrimonial antics ar« memories wherever he has been . Mr Harry Shine has also a quaint character to in Bison Bob, a droll circus proprietor. The speciality features include Messrs Queen and Le B run's clowning and animal impersonations, and some remarkably good imitations of favourite stage artists by Miss Olga Grey, who has only recently made her debut, and has won sure popularity wherever she has been. . ; Miss Mabelle Morgan has a number' of haunting songs, one being ,"Bayon," which is given with a pretty canoeing effect. 'Miss Dillon appears in a whirlwind dance, and the children of the pantomime give a charming representation of the famous characters in nursery literature. Mr- George Hall, who is conducting, has written some catchy orchestral music, and tide airs are said to linger pleasantly, on the ear. The ballets are announced as being on an elaborate scale. The box plans for the three performances, which includes a matinee on Thursday, will be opened at H. I. Jones' to-morrow morning.
