Thoroughgood' at once waited upon his backers with most successful results,, the Raymond Terrace peoplel' lalbne promising £100 towards ■ his stake. The other £100 he -expects tor; •raise mv Newcastle. .Thoachaiapioii'Jias.: not yet forwarded the articles to NewZealand, but he will do bo as soon as ho hears from Whelch as to the probable date of the contest. Thoroughgood says he will require at least eight weeks from the signing of articles, so that the race will, in ail probability, be rowed on the Hunter River some time in November. He is afrpresent at Port Stephens, where he intends remaininga couple of weeks; but before leaving Newcastle he made all arrangements for rteamers to follow the race, and also secured the righte of two reserves at Raymond Terrace. This is a decidedly good move, as most of the people assemble in these enclosures and see the races almost from start to finish without cost. This time, however, they will be called upon to pay a small fee. Thoroughgocd has placed an order with George Fearn for a new boat, which, wi'l bo built on different lines to the last one he got from .the same builder^ .She/will be narrower in the beam, and-, not so deep, and Ben' expects that she will be at least a length faster in the distance.
