WHY WAS HE AGITATED?
(United Press Association—Copyright.) Received August" 30, 4.20> p.m. ' - LONDON, August 29. A sensational incident has been reported to the police in connection with the Luard murder.
Last week a man put up at an hotel at Sevenoaks and intimated his intention of staying a fortnight. On Monday last he .was unable to pay his bill. He said he expected a remittance and went out ostensibly to transact business. He returned at 4 o'clock in the afternoon in a very excited fetate. He explained his agitation when settling with the landlord on Tuesday," saying 'that instead '~ of ■proceeding-to a neighbouring village on the previous day he was compelled to cycle to London.
On Wednesday, Chief Inspector Scott, of Scotland Yard, staying at the same hotel, noticed the stranger greatly agitated. The latter paid' his bill and left, remarking to the landlord: "This man seems to be a detective watching ■mo."
It has been ascertained that Mrs Luard was murdered at 3.15 on Monday .-afternoon.
