There was a better enquiry this week for forward deliveries owing to the expecta- . tion of small shipments from New Zealand. Canterbury mutton is quoted at 4fd, North Island 3|d, and River Plate 3 1-Sd. •> The lamb market is Tery firm, Canterbury bj&nds 5 7-Sd; mother than Canterbury s|d. The butter market is firm/ but is at a ■decline, and the excitement has subsided, '. The. position is quite satisfactory, and. there is a good demand for -chbicdst.New Zealand at 1225, Australian • 120s, Argentine 120s, and Danish 126s per ewt. . Tho cheese market is slightly weaker, with les sdemand; white cheese is quoted at" 61s, and coloured 62 per cwt. The hemp market is very depressed on account of advice from Manila, and all fibres are offering at much lower prices per tori for March-May shipment; £24 10s and £23s 5s are quoted respectively for good fair, and fail* grade. Good' fair \grade on spot is quoted at £25 and fair grade at £24. ' . 'The cocksfoot seed market is quiet at 7'is per .cwt. Shipments from: River Plate for February are—London: Mutton 86,260, lamb 1171. Liverpool, 88,223 and 17,659. Hull, 7101 and 1000. Newcastle, 13,520 and ,1937. Cardiff, 15,064 and 1346. Southampton, 6000 and nil. Ireland ,193 and 200. Current quotations for Bradford tops are :—36's, low crossbreds, lid per lb ; 40's, low crossbreds, ll^d-; 40'sj medium crossbreds. Is Id; 50's, halfbreds, lso^d; 56's, quai'terbreds, Is Bfd; 60's, merinos, 2s o|d. The market is dull and declining, especially for coarse tops of all grades. . The hope market is dull, and likely to continue so. The market is becoming more depressed on account of licensing legislation. The . best quotes for English liqps are 60s, and American 40s per cwt.
