A MAN BURNED TO DEATH.
CHRiISTCHURCH, July 13. Inspector Gillies received information to-day that <a man named William O'Brien, about fifty years of age, unmarried, 'with no relatives in the colony, was burned to death in his hut on Mrs Lemon's farm near Laurififcou late last night or early this morning. He was last scan alive about 9.30 last night. 'He.-was in the habit of smoking in bed._ and about one o'clock this morning Ids hut was found to be in flames. All attempts at rescue were unsuccessful.
