POLO.

RANGITIKEI (11) V. HAWKE'S

BAY (o)

Tho polo match at Stortfcrd Ledge on Thursday between teams representing Rangitikei and Hawke's Bay was won rather easily by the visitors. The game was evtnly contested up to halftime, but after that, except for one brief effort, the home team went to pieces, and were beaten by 11 goals too. '

Hawke's Bay pressed from the start, and W. McKenzie.. following up well, put Ornaoaid in possession, and he scored first blood. B-angitikei responded, and Dalrymple made matters even. H. Wilson 'followed th:«s up with a goal, and the visitors led. F. McKenzie and Ormond retaliated, and the latter made the scoring level. Rangitikei looked dangerous for a time, but were checked by Ormond, who, getting possession put in a long run, and finished up by hitting a splendid goal. This was replied to by a goal from Noel Wilson, and the teams were again equal. After a brief spell, H. Wilson put the visitors in front, and their tally was further augmented before half-time, when the scores were—Rangitikei 5 goals, Hawke's Bay 3. Noel Wilson started off1 with another goal, and some even play ensued. Then the Hawke's Bay players set at it with a will, and goals from Russell and McKenzie reduced the visitors' lead to 1 goal. The effort was, however, spasmodic, and from this out Rangitikei played all ov'?r their opponents. Goal followed goal in quick order until the finl call stopped the visitors. The tally then was—Rangitikei 11 goals, Hawke's Bay 5.

All the visitors played in good style, keeping their places and hitting splendidly. Hawke's Bay did not play in the form of two years' ago, and lacked combination. They also failed to keep their places regularly, and thereby lost many possible opportunities. Ormond was at times —>ry brilliant, and W. McKenzie playo-l well, as did his brother, while Russell was greatly handicapped by his ponies. There was a large attendance of ladies, and the gama, vvhiph was controlled by Mr. Oswald Nelson, was very enjoyable.—"Hawke's Bay Herald. 5'
