PRIMITIVE METHODIST CHURCH.

ANNIVERSARY SERVICES

The anniversary of the Primitive Methodist Church was celebrated yesterday, there, being large congregations at the 'three services. The jweaoher in t!he morning was the Rev. J. 6. Chapman, who gave a most interesting talk to the young folks on courtesy. His sermon -mas ■based upon John i., 42 — " He brought Him to Jesus"—and went; to show that whilst the church might gather the multitude it also had to deal with individuals. It was a noble and. eloquent appeal to the congregation to realise and carry out God's purpose concerning the church. During the service the choir rendered the anthem "Be Brave." In tihe afternoon the Sacred Service of Song, " Harry Neil," was given by the choir. The quartette, "At the Mercy Seat," was taken by Mesdames Swell and Keir and Messrs Hoffmann and Vamey. The solo, " Lead we gently home," was feelingly rendered by Miss Minifie, and the alto solo in the anthem " Have mercy upon me" was taken by Miss Jenkins. Throughout the music was well sustained, Miss Huckst»ep acting -as accompanist. The con-: nectivo readings were given by the Rev. E. Drake. In the evening the pulpit was occupied by the pastor of the church, who discoursed on " The Mission of the Church," as set forth in Christy word—" Give ye them to eat" (Ma#hew vi., 16). The speaker showed that the church has a mission to a hungry world, but that her resources are inadequate to the great need. Hence the members of the church must take their meagre resources to Christ that He may multiply them. The "preacher concluded with an earnest appeal to the members of the church tlhat they might fulfil their calling, and to those, who were still unsatisfied that they might come to Christ, who is the Bread of Life. The choir;rendered the anthem, " Have mercy upon me, 0 God," during the service. The anniversary tea meeting and concert will be held on Tuesday evening.
