THE PARAPARA ROAD.
AND THE OHOTU BLOCK
MINISTERS' REPLIES TO MR WILLIS.

; WELLINGTON, July 12. "Regarding the Parapara road, Hon Wj' Hall-Jones to-day replied to Mr. Willis as follows: I am aware that this is an important road, designed to give access to the interior of the North Island- The desirability of its being constructed is fully recognised, and the matter of providing a substantial grant for tho purpose -will be carefully considered in -the preparation of the Public Works Estimates for the current year. And Mr. Carroll, re the Ohotu Block, thus replied to Mr. WilEs: The Ohotu Block contains about 58,000 acres. When transferred to the Council some three years ago it was unexplored and without roads or tracks of any kind. Since then section surveys have been in progress, and are now almost complete, and a sum of £8000 has been advanced to provide the necessary road access to tho sections. During the last two months 3610 acres have been taken up, and during the last six months ending tho 30th June, 17,612 acres. Seeing that some of the selectors are well known practical farmers, whose judgment can be trusted, it may safely be assumed that their example will' be eagerly folllowed by others in want of suitable holdings. It is therefore expected that a ready demand will be made for the balance of the sections, especially as they have since last January been re-opened under altered and more favourable conditions.
