Mr. E. M. Smith, M.H.R., is making speedy progress towards recovery from •has indisposition. It has'been definitely announced that My. R. M. Gateiiby, the local chemist, v iIJ stand as an independent Liberal for the Wanganui seat at the next general election. Inspector Gillies, who was injured in tho accident at the opening of the electric, tramways here, over five weeks ago, has so far recovered as to be able to walk aiwrafc a little, but it will be a week, or so ;before he will be able to venture out o£.doors.
