WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL.

Tho usual monthly meeting of the Wanganui County Council was held yesterday> Present: Crs. R. Neilson (in thy 'chair), J. E. Wilson, F. Higgie, A. Higgie, J. R. Sommerville, H. M. Speeti, and I). Mason. MINUTES.—The minutes of the previous meeting were road and confirmed. POUNDKEEPER.—Cr. Sommerville reported that Mr. Godso had consented to act as poundkeeper during the next two months. ACCOUNTS.—Accounts amounting tc £304 6s. 6d. were passed for payment. REFUND.—A letter was read from the Waitotara County Council, asking for payment of £54, being payment in excess to the Wanganui County' Couk.ciPin respect of the Wanganui bridge. —Resolved that the amount be refunded. •■ " • -.- ... . " i : SANITARY INSPECTOR. — Letter from tho Chief Health Officer stating that ho was endeavouring to have the legal position sot right so as to enable the Council to pay a salary to the- Sanitary Inspector.—Resolved that the Au-ditor-General be asked to refund the amount of salary which had been illegally paid to the Inspector.—lt was furthex' resolved to inform the Health Department that the Council intends to discontinue its contribution towards the salary of the Sanitary Inspector. THlßDS—Letter from the Commissioner of Crown Lands stating that as tltH Aberfeldie Bridge was now finished, it was proposed that the thirds set ipart for its construction and unspent, should be transferred to the Mangawhero Road Board, and spent on that body') behalf.—Received. TOWN BRIDGE.—The Chairman reported that Mr. Hay was preparing anothev report on the condition of the Town Bridge.—lt was decided to hold a special meeting on receipt of the report.—The Chairman and Crs. A. Higgle and Sommerville were appointed to jrep*esent the Council on the approaching local bodies' conference re the protection oi; tho Town Bridge. COMPLAINT.—A letter was received from Mi*. D. McFarlano complaining that ho had been threatened with a summons for tho recovery of rates which ho had paid and for which he held receipts. He also stated that he intended to sue for an account for £13 which was overdue.—The clerk said the notice sent to Mr. McFarlane was due to an oversight.—The Chairman said that tHe overdue account mentioned by Mr. McFarlano bad been settled.

COUNTIES' ASSOCIATION.—It was, decided that tho Council be not represented at the approaching conference of tho Counties' Association.—lt was resolved to pay the annual subscription of £3 13s. to tho Association.!

RIGHT-OF-WAY.—The question of giving to Messrs. Burrell and Sigley a right-of-way through the ground at the hack of the Council's office premises wus discussed, and it was resolved to givo them the right to occupy 12 feet of tho yard at £b' per annum, tenancy to bo from year to year, and terminable at six months' notice.
