FEILDING J.C. SPRING MEETING.

(By Our Special Reporter)

'Beautiful weather, prevailed for the opening day of this popular gathering, and there was a large attendance of the public from all parts of the Island. The club scored a great success in every way, the racing being particularly interesting, while speculation was brisk from start to finish. Kremlin won the Flying after a sharp struggle with Matuku, the favourite, Tessera running in the rear 'all the way.-. The St. Andrew's Handicap was a very pretty race, the winner turning up in the' little-thought - of Joe Chamberlain, who was ridden a patient race by A. Oliver. The well-bred ■Seagull (St. Leger-Gannet) "won the Aoraiigi Hack Flat Handicap easily. Both hurdle events were run-away victories, and were-won from end to end. Golden Vein, despite his big weight, settled the opposition in the Kiwitea Welter most decisively. The racing .concluded with the Fitzroy Handicap, in which no less than 24 started. On the strength of 'his Wadtara running,. Manippote was made a favourite, but a straggling etart gave the race to Gatspaw, who was always in first position.
