BOXING EXHIBITIONS.
To the Editor. Sir^—lt was my '■intention not to take any notdceof "Ratepayer's" leter, but when he talks about' being a sport, or rather that the "noble art' should be learnt by every youth, I think it would be as well to ask him how the movement could take place unless an association encouraged ib by providing the wberewitball to donate prkes for the d'-fferent classes. Our exhibition will be purely amateur, no money passing, the prize beinsr a gold! medal of standard design. As to encouraging prize fights and knock-outs, that's all bosh; it shows "Ratepayer's" ignorance, and it must have been 'a Lttle E fiat Gym. that he. belonged to. The contest being! judged by points, therefore the most scientific competitor wins, not the one who "deala stoush.1' A laflge number of influential gentlemen of this town are mot ashamed of being members of and! having their name* published as officer-hearers of the association, and if "Ratepayer" is a sport, let hint ■come to light and show that he ia noti' /an effeminate spo|il-sport, trying to XBaken.itoops of our boy^^^
' To the Editor. Si*,— -Having read "Ratepayer's" letter in your 'issue of to-day, I think it very evident tblati he ia opposed to boxing, although he wants to try and make out— and even goes as far as to assure us—that •he has learnt the "noble art." Well., perhaps he has; but I would1 like to point out to him that there are just as many respect. tobla people -come heua from Australia as there aie go from New: Zealand* to Australia. Sir, I am an Australian native, and proud of it, and I can* mentiloni several more names of respectable anem and! women in WangaiQui who hail from the sarnie place, where boxing ia carried on in a true sportsmanlike and! friendly manneii. I consider, and think a good miany. more will do the same, that •tjhe Wanganiia branch: of New Zealand Boxing Association are to be oome amended for the manner in which they are bringing this favourite and health-giving exercise to the youth/of Wanganui for their own physical development, and not to protect themselves as this one-eyed "Ratejpayer" ■wants txymake people believe, from the scram of Australia. —I am, etc., ' V AUSTRALIAN NATIVE.
