NEW PLYMOUTH, October 5. The Supreme Court was occupied all day ofu Saturday hearing a charge of criminal assault on a little girt preferred against Richard Taylor. The case concluded, the .jury returning a verdict of not guilty. The prisoner was disccharged. There was some cheering outside the Court when the verdict was known. This completes the criminal calendar.
Three divorce oases are set down for Monday. CHRISTCHUROH, October 4. When the Arbitration Court resumed this morning, the sheep-owner®' representative stated that as the result of a further conference between the sheep-owners and the Union an agreement had. been arranged to continue until July, 1905. The Judge expressed pleasure at Hie result of the conference.
The cycle trade dispute-ue now being heard.
WESTPORT, October 4.
At Denniston yesterday Constable Fairhill obtained a pronibition order against a man named Caleb Thomas. The latter immediately proceeded to a hotel to obtain drink. Fairhill followed to warn the publican, when Thomas assaulted Fairhall. The latetr sustained internal injuries, and is confined to his bed. Thomas was remanded on £50 bail.
INVERCARGILL, October 4,
At the Pcpee Court Charles Risk and John Francis pleaded guilty to having trout in their posse: fciom out of season. Counsel for the prosecution stated that defendants admitted that 59 trout*, averaging 6 lbs. each, were caught in a net while fMving for mullet, in the new river estuary. Mr. McCarthy imposed a. fine of £2 10seascih, with costs.
