The ''Daily Mail's" Johannesburg .correspondent states that the Boer committees appointed to assess the damage to property caused by the war in the Transvaal declare that the amount is sixty million sterling.

CAPETOWN, October 3;
The Assembly defeated the conduct of the members' of the Afrikander Bond during the
Avar
Theron (president of the Bond) eulogised Lord Kitchenei*'s fairness. He declared that the Bond would determinedly defend the flag,, but claimed the use of the-Dutch language on an, equality with the French in Canada. .
Lang moved am amendment for extending the scope of the proposed inquiry to all Bondsmen and summoning the Bond to express regret at the rebellion. In the course of a- speech he contrasted the ■ admirable conduct of the Boer generals before reaching Capetown with their attitude after contact with politicians there. He added : Nobody on the Bond sidei, excepting Tlieron and De Waal, admitted' tihat the rebellion was wrong. ■ • *
The amendment wasi negatived by 35 to 24.
The Ministry voted against the Bond
De Waal's motion for a Select Committee of Inquiry was then carried without a division.
