HAWERA, October 2. Last eveiifng-R. E. Mcßae, the wellknown s-poiting man, and for many years prominent in local politics, was entertained- at a smoke concert, and presented with rt purse of Kiovereigns and a gold badge of life membership of the Egmorat Racing Club, of which, he has been a steward since the Ghib's inception. Mi. Mcßae did much to improve the blood and draught stock, as well as sheep; and cattle in this district. He is going td South Africa to .settle. ::■■'■ The Borough Council accepted a tender of £1857 17s. 9d. few the erection of abattoirs.
A movement is afloat to erect a memorial to Trooper Goodland and other South Taranaki men who lost their lives in South Africa.
