TAIHAPE NOTES.

(Froln Our Own Correspondent.) November 27. Last Friday, the Lismore annual: school concert was L.1.1 in the schoolroom.. The schoolroom is,a lean-to built (jut of the side of Mr. Groorae's house, andisonly 22 x 10. It is pleasing to know The Board intends building a- school-house in the near future. The following programme was submitted to a crowded audience: Overture, Mrs. Groome; chorus, school children ; song, Mr. Groome; reading, Miss Dykes; song, Mr. Aldridge, sen.; song, Mr. Coulter; chorus, school children; song, Mr.- Carver; duet, Mr. and Mrs. Groome; song, Mr. Aldridge; recitation, Mr. R. McDonald; song, Miss Millar; song. Mr. Coulter; song, Miss Randolph; Highland fling, Mr. Standley: duet, xuiss Aldridge and Mr. Carver; chorus, school children ; v s°ng> Mr. Groome; song, Mr. Warren; song, Mr. AWridge, sen. "God i Save the King" brought a pleasant little 1 outing for many persons to a close. The room was then cleared and dancing indulged in until 2 a.m. During the concert Mr. McColl presented the school children with commemoration medals, and also in a. few .words warmly thanked the Taihape people for the assistance rendered that night. Mr. Aldridge briefly responded on behalf of the visitor**.

A meeting of theose interested in forming a branch of the Farmers' Union here was held last Saturday in the Town Hall. There was a pood attendance. It was resolved that a> branch be formed in Taihape. Mr. Floyd (chairman). Mr. McColl (secretary), and Mr. Piillinan (treasurer) were elected to the positions named. Several have joined since.

The Taihape Brass Band concert last Monday proved it tremendous success. The road in front of the Hall was crowded long before the doors opened by persons of all ages aiid sex. who seemed* afraid they would not get a seat unless they were there early. The Baud p\ved for half an hour outside the Hall, and by the time tho doors were opened quite a. large crowd (for Taihape) had assembled.

All the men working on the line above Taihapo" have been discharged within the past three weeks. What in the reason? is the question of the hour.

Mr. W. A. Floy started round Taihape yesterday with a subscription list for fencing the cemetery, and at the close of th« day -had collected the substantial sum of £30.

The Church of Kngland bazaar, which is fixed for the sth and 6th of December next, promises to be a large affair. The Committee met to-day, when most of the work was marked off. A large parcel from Cobb, of Fcilding. was opened up, and di«-. tributed among the ladies, to make up.; A list of side shows." as follows, was. drawn out: Magic lantern, hat trimming for gentlemen, nail driving, lady's bread baking and butter milking competition, post office.
