Tho Supreme Court sittings ojlened before Judge Denmston, wbo r congratulated the Grand Jury ,md district on the unprecedented position in the total absence of criminal cases. The Register, following the time-honoured custom, presented the Judge with a pair of white gloves. Five grand jurors who failed to appear were lined £5 each. The Court is now engaged with the case of Wm. Domigan v. T. K. King, an action for specific performance of agreement to sell land and damages for non-perform-ance. There are only four civil cases. Thu sitting it not likely to last more than-two days. i CHRISTCHURCH. December o. Charles George Baker, licensee of the Sandridge Hotel, Sydenham, was fined 20s this morning for refusing to admit the police on a recent Sunday evening. Several cases under the Dairy Act were heard. Isaac Parish was fined 5s for neglecting to coool the milk before offering the same for sale. Edward Cockayne was fined 40s and costs for using a milk-cart for cariying pigs' wash. WELLINGTON, December 3. At the Supreme. Court, Paul Chequelle, convicted yesterday of wounding, was sentenced to five years.
