THE GAS MANAGERSHIP.
MR SMITHIES DECLINES THE
PETONE OFFER
SAID TO BE GOING TO ENGLAND ON
BEHALF OF WANGANUI.
(Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, August 14.
Mr Smithies has definitely declined the offer made by the Petone Borough Council to retain his services, and proceeds to Wanganui. It is stated that he, will shortly proceed to England on behalf of the Wanganui Borough Council to purchase an up-to-date gas plant. [We understand from the Mayor that the Borough Council have no knowledge of the suggested visit to England, and therefore the statement in the telegram relating thereto must be regarded as incorrect. —Ed. Chronicle.]
