OUR VOLUNTEERS.

The following are the conditions under which the Government medals are to be competed for; in connection with which the Wanganui Garrison • will fire on Saturday,: 16th inst. :—(1) Rifles on .issue to the corps to. be used in the competition ; (2) a gold medal for the' best shot in each Island; (3) a gold and silver medal for the second besfe shot in each Island ; (4) a silver medal for the,best; shot, in, each, district excluding; the holders of the medals ali'eady detailed ; (5); the medal in each case to become the property of the highest scorer.;^ (6) marksmen who must be efficient Volunteers are only eligible to compete for these medals; (7); distances to be fired will be 300 yards kneeling, 500 and 700 yards any military position, for .303 arm, 10 rounds at-each distance; (8) the competition in. each district to take place between the present date and 31st March next, and on such a day as may be appointed, and to bo under the personal superintendence of an officer oi the 'permanent .or district stall.; (9) the original scores, giving the regimental number and Christian- names in full of competitor and name of corps (to be signed by the officer superintending the firing), are to be forwarded by first mail, to headquarters through the Officer Commanding the Disr trict; (10) targets will be as follows : 200 and 300 yards 3rd class, 500 yards 2nd class, 700 yards Ist class, dimensions as for Government class firing; (11) officers not eligible to compete; (12) Whitney's Colonial Ammunition Company ammunition only to be used, and will be refunded to corpa on application; (13) ties will be decided as follows, viz., first .by the total aggregate hits, second by the value of each bit taken in inverse order commencing with the longest range; (14) the competition to be carried out as between Volunteers in districts and sub-districts as last year; (15) competitors must be in uniform.
