Ths army estimates for 1901-2 total £87,----915,000, providing for an effective, force of £450,000. ' . :
The army estimates provide for a permanent army of 222,000, the remainder of the effective force being regarded' as temporary forces due to the war.
The estimates include 58,230,000 for war sendees, with a. cost of reparation and gravities. The estimates are based upon the calculation that the army in South! Africa will ba kept at full strength until the beginning of August, and then be gradually diminished. The increase of £414,000 for permanent services include a quarter of a million for the militia reserve, 150,000 for the new_ system of. consolidated bounties. Substantial provision is made for organisation of the army medical departments, and pensions for widows and children of th-oso who die as the result of active operations.
