EAGER TO SURRENDER AT KROONSTAD.
BRITISH RESIDENTS CHEER TIIE TROOPS. FREE STATE OPPOSITION ENDED. BOERS OBJECT TO BRITISH TACTICS. Received 14th, 10.45 p.m. LONDON. May 14. Lord Roberts found tbe Field Cornet at Kroonstad and 300 Free Staters all eager to surrender.
The few British residents warmlv cheered the troops, and the maligners' of the British were arrested. Others trekked home.
Reuters correspondent states lhat the Free State opposition has ended. Sjsveral meetings of laagers favoured submission, and complained of the British pretending frontal attacks, while the cavalry sweep rouud the flanks. Such tactics were very unusual and it was useless to continue fighting.
