The Wakamarino Gorge and Deep Creek Gold-mining Company has not succeeded iu raising sufficient capital to go on working, and has decided to wind-up. The comi pany has spent £8,000 in four years, and obtained about lOOoz. of gold. Typhoid fever, which at this time has been prevalent in previous years, is now completely absent, only one case being in the Hospital, and that not a city case. Good progress is being made with the road between Kaikoura and Conway River, Vhich will open up some of the finest scenery in the colony. About £5,000 is required to complete it.
