DAIRY INDUSTRY PROSECUTIONS.
(Peb Press Association.) Wellington. March 80. Several cases involving breaches of the " Dairy Industry Act, 1892," came before Mr Martin, S.M , in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when Mr Skerrett, acting for the Department of Agriculture, proceeded against A. Manoy, of Biwaka (Nelson), for supplying a nuirber of boxes of butter without stamping them with the required brands. Mr Gray, who appeared for the defendant, pleaded guilty through ignorance, and suggested that a conviction without a fine would meet the ends Eought to be obtained by the prosecution. Mr Skerrett pointed out that the Act under which the prosecution had been brought was not a new one, and therefore the defendant could not plead ignorance. Mr Martin said that the Act was not a fresh one and that the dairy industry was most important to the colony and must be protected. The defendant was fined £5 and costs. Orlando C. Oldbam, Robert Kirkpatrick, and George Johnston were similarly proceeded against, and also pleaded guilty through ignorance, and wore each fined £5,
