Sib,— l have tho honor to inform you that the following candidates from this district passed the Teachers' Certificate Examination as under :— Class D.— Wanganu i: Curtis, Harriet, 1893 ; McCaul, George William, 1894 ; ODea, Patrick, 1894; Stewart, Harry Comfooc. Class E.-— Wanganui : Barrett, Herbert James ; Burr, Elizabeth, 1894 ; Ecclesfield, Esther, 1892 ; Hill, Edith Frances, 1894 ; Ironmonger, Edwin Lovell ; McMeckin, Emma, 1894 ; Matthews, James, 1894 ; Mowbray, Edith, 1893 ; Muir, William John Wilson, 1894 ; Nairn, James, 1894 ; Peat, Janet Harriet; Powell, Albert Hugh, 1894 ; Boache, Patrick Henry, 1893; Scott, Annie Wilson, 1893 ; Stonehouso, Eichard Robert; Thurston, James Fishor, 1894; Welsh, Alfred Ernest. Partial D.— Wanganui: Insoll, Thomas Baker ; Pendergast, Joanna, 1888. Partial E.— Wanganui: Barr, Grace, 1894 ; Kelly, Elizabeth Jane ; McDonogh, Aimee Mary, 1894 ; Mackay, Duncan Henry ; Martin, Mary Agnes, 1891 , Spurdle, Helen Jane, 1894, The year after some of the names denotes that the candidates' pupil teacher time expired, or will expire, in June of such year. Of tho 29 candidates from this district who were successful, 21 were pupil teachers or ex-pupil teachers, and of suoli 21, 12 do not really complete their apprenticeship as pupil teachers until next June, l'atrich ODea, who passed for E in 1893, and for D last January, obtained special mention iv five subjects at tho latter examination — Arithmetic, history, elementary science, algebra, and mechanics— that is in more than any other candidate in the colony. Special mention was obtained by other candidates as follows : — James Thurston, history and science ; Will. J. Muir, science ; Albert Powell, perspective drawing ; llichard Stonehousc, English. Three pupil teachers from one Bchool alone— Waverley— passed for E. Such results are most creditable to the pupil teachers themsolves, and to the head teachers instructing them. — lam, &c, W. H.
