WELLINGTON KEGATTA. [Per United Press Association.] Wellington, March 28. The Wellington Regatta, which was hold to-day, was fairly successful, The southern course along the Te Aro shore was used, the wind being light and the water fairly smooth until late in the afternoon, wlion a heavy sea spranp up. The surprise of the gathering wad tho poor display of Koefo in the Sculls and the Auckland crew in the Senior Fours, their form being a complete reversal of that shown at Picton, Results:— Pearce Sculls. A. G. Hume, Star B.C. (Wellington)... 1 M'Grath, Dunedin 2 Keofe, Auckland 3 Hume led from Btart to finish, rowing in fine Btyle, and winning by three lengths. M'Grath challenged him several times, but failpd to get on terms. The Star Boating Club won the Maiden Fours and the Maiden Double Sculls. Senior OuTRiaaED Fouus. Canterbury Bowing Club 1 Lyttelton Kowing Club 2 Union Rowing Club (Christchurch)... 3 Also started : btars, Nelson, Auckland, and Wellington. The Auckland men were beaten at the half distance, and shortly afterwards gave up. Lyttelton, after Rhaking off the Unions and Stars, made a great race of it with Canterbury, but the latter, showing much better form than they displayed at Picton, maintained the lead, winning by a length and a half ; the third boat a couple of lengths away. JUNJOK OUTRIGGED FOUKS. Nolson 1 Stnrß 2 Wellington 3 This was a groat race botweon the Nulsons and the Stars. The latter led by a couple of lengths for three-quarters of tho distance, when the visitors overhauled them, and shot past, winning by a length and a half. Tho Cbristchurch Unions won the Senior Double Sculls, nud the Stars the Senior Fair a. At the finish of the former race Samuels, bow man of the Union crew, fainted on returning to the skids, owing to a fit of nervous exhaustoin, and the crow could not start in the Pairs. The Wellington Eowinff Club won the Ladies' Plate. Three other crews started, but wore swamped before half the distance was covered. Later. One of the Auckland men broke an oar in the race for tho Senior Fours to day, which accounts for the way in which the crew wont to pieces. The bow man in tho Wellington Club's pair met with a similar accident when the crew had a clear lead in tho Senior Pairoared event. The last three races afforded no test of the true capabilities of the men, and the complaints of rowing enthusiasts are loud and deep. In the Ladies' Plato event tVie Wellington crew rowad in a clinker outrigger, the other crows using best-and-best boats, the former thus being placed at a great advantage in the rough water. On this ground Canterbury entered a protest against the winners, but it has not yet been considered.
