Wellington, Match 22, In Wellington suburbs the licensing election returns are not yet complete, but it is almost certain that the Temperance Committee will be elected. Local option so far is for continuance. Publicans' licenses, 486 j reduction, 143,- no license, 572 Six returns yet to come. It is understood that Otaki has returned Moderate candidates, but there are no details. Auckland, March 22. At the licensing election in the Eden electorate 450 votes were reoorded out of 8937 on the roll, the election is therefore void. Pew women vcted. The weather was unfavaurable. Napier, March 22. More than half the electors voted yesterday in the election of the licensing committee, but many refused the papers*"*-: for the local option poll, or brought them away in their pocket 3 ; 1849 voted, 128 being in favour no reduction of licenses, 298 for reduction, and 341 for prohibition ; 1082 informal. The large number of informal votes is accounted for by the fact that those who'were in favour of the maintenance of the present number of licenses were publicly asked not to mark their ballot papers so as to prevent a half poll. It is not yet known whether the matter will bo proceeded with further. The number short of carrying prohibition for publicans' licenses would seem to be 741, and of bottle licenses 155, The latter the returning officer makes out to be only 18. The Caveraham local option poll is •— Publicans' licenses continuance, 357; reduction, 431 ; no licenses, 912 ; bottle licenses continuance ,381 ; reduction, 310; no licenses, 1001. There were altogether 305 informal votes. The poll is 108 short if prohibition for publicans, and 19 short » for bottle licenses. •♦» Mastebton, March 22. The local option poll is almost csrtain to be null. Fort Chalmers, March 22. Port Chalmers local option :—Publicans' continuation, 659 ; reduction, 383 ; no licenses, 1272 ; bottle license continuation, 566; reduction, 332; no licenses, 1371. The poll is effective but it is 57 short of prohibition in publicans'. Bottle licenses are prohibited by a majority of 178.
