Wellington, January 18. Mr. Charlton has furnished an interim report on the mortality of sheep on the West Coast. It nppears to I>b caused by excessive paeturo of poor quality, especially Yorkshire fog and cooksfoot. Tho treatmont is to remove the shoop to different paddocks with a little medicino, .A fuller report is promisod. ' Te Labour Journal says that reports from tho country of the labour mnrkot during December are encouraging, aud tho proapeots this month are good. Harvesting and grass feeding will absorb a large number. There will bo 120 patients in the new Porinia Asylum this week, Accommodation is available for 200. Drafts will be made from other asylums to comulete it. The building will take 500. The Wellington papers, commenting on the recent decision under the Factories Act, suggest that it should be remodelled, and a Consolidated Act brought in. The Labour Department, however, say thore will bo no necessity for sucli a course, as tho Act has worked well, and in every caso except two brought under it tho prosecution has been successful. Ono or two amendments are found to be necessary, including provisions respecting piece work, and these will be brought down this year, but there is no intontion of interfering with the moasure as a whole. It is stated that a private meeting of warehousemen was held here recently, when among other things it was decided to modify the terms of credit to retailers, The Bimutaka sailed for London this evening.
