WOMAN'S FRANCHISE LEAGUE

A Reminder for Mr Willis. A very successful meeting of tho above was held last evening in the Druids' Hall, and much appreciation was shown of the varied Bnd interesting programme provided by the Committee. The chair was taken by the vice-Presidant, Mrs Bullock, and addresses, of a most intfr-sting character, were read by the following ladies : — Miss HarrieoD, '• Status of Women in the Ancient World"; Mrs Cremer (for Mrs John McGregor) " Some Famous Women of Ancient Days "j Mrs Randal, " Woman Suffrage from the Masculine Point or View " , Mrs Williamson, "Some Remarkable Women of Modfra Times." In the course of tho rceotins j allusion was made to the attitude adopted towards the Woman Suffrage question by the member for Wanganui, a quotation from whose speech on the Address-in-Reply was read , after which the following resolution was unanimously adopted, and the Hon. Secretary requested to forward it to Mr Willis, " The Wanganui Women's Franchise Leaguo has learned with surprise and regrot that MrWillis, in his speech on the Addioss-in.Reply, while stating that ha was bound to vote for Woman Subrage, endeavoured to dannge that cause by misleading statements calculated to produce the impression that in this electorate the bulk of the women ate opposed to the reform. That the contrary is the case was abundantly proved by the fact that against his own convictions and of many of his leading male supporters, Mr Willis judgodit expedient to pledge hiß support. This League trusts that Mr Willis will loyally fulfil that pledge, and while regretting tbe inaccuracy of his remarks as published in Hansard, hopas that this misleading character was rather the vasult of inadvertonce than intention." The meeting also unanimously carried tho following resolution for transmission to the Hon, the Premier. " This meeting, held under the auspices of the Wanganui Women's Franchise League, urgently prays the Government to facilitate the early passing of the Electoral Bill, in order that tho womon of tho colony may have sufficient time to register bal'ore the next general election." In the early part of the meeting a letter was read from Mrs Ballance thanking tho League for their resolution of sympathy, and accepting tho office of President, a decision evidently gratifying to all present,
