— « The Snreat Shooting Case. Young Sanderson Discharged, (Per Pbes Association.) Wellington, July 21. John D jones, ex-artilleryman of New South Wales, was arrested here to-day, charged with embezzling ,£SO belonging to the funds of the canteen of tbe Victoria Barracks. Sydney. He was handed over to Constable Nolan, who arrived frcm Sydney last night, and the pair left by the Waihora this afternoon. Mr Martin, 8.M., and two Justices were engaged from 10 o'clock until 1.30 this afternoon investigating the charge of murder preferred against Lewis Albert Sanderson in connectiou with the shooting of W J. Spreat. at his residence, Pirie-street, on Bth July. The evidence was the same as adduced at the inquest, and in discharging tho accused the Magistrate said he considered there had heen provocation, and Sanderson had only fired at deceased in self-defence, and when he saw escspe impossible.
